[Before and After Crazy Cat Lady-ification] Remember, it's so easy to slip from "normal" to "crazy cat lady." Let's review:

If you have Then you
1 cat have a cat
2 cats like cats
3 cats are in the danger zone
4 or more cats are a crazy cat lady

Unfortunately, there are very few mitigating circumstances. If two or even three people live together, 4 or more cats still makes them, each and every one of them, crazy cat ladies, regardless of their gender. There is no per capita cat averaging or similar mitigations.
The next obvious question is: Why does the table stop at 4 cats? That is because once Crazy Cat Lady status has been achieved, the number of cats can increase dramatically over short periods of time. I had a friend that went the typical route: One, then two, then three, over the course of a few years. Then it hit four, and then...something happened. Within a few days it was at eight. By the next week it was 15. Many of them were "temporary" which means, well, not very much.

As far as recovery goes, the literature is a bit sketchy on it, since there aren't that many recorded cases of remission and recovery. Still, I'd say it'd require at least six months in the safe zone before anyone could make any statements as to a potential change of status.

This was 2 quick sketches. The second is obviously a cheap imitation of The Simpson's style (and their Crazy Cat Lady). Scanned, cleaned up, and merged together, along with the text. I was thinking of adding a speech balloons. The first would say "Oooooh, look at the cute little kittie!" and the second would be incoherent babbling, but I think the images moreor less speak for themselves. images/Drawings/Sketches/crazycatlady.png
