[Flooding in St. Stephen's Green] The day before I arrived (Sunday Oct 23, 2011, I think), Dublin got a month's worth of rain in one day (literally). 85mm (3.3") in a day, with an average for October being 65mm (2.5"), with over an inch falling in 1 hour. The largest recorded rainfall for one day there ever. Lots of flooding, lots of problems, my cab had to take an alternate route to the hotel from the airport, and we passed places with large areas of standing water. Later, while in a park, St. Stephen's Green, I noticed some pretty ponds with cultivated flowers in the center. After a bit, I noticed there was no boundary between the grass and the pond and, in fact, there was cultivated grass (like a putting green) in all of the ponds. They were, in fact, all just part of the flooding, they just happened to look very pretty and fit with the park. This picture was made from two pictures stitched together, so there is a little lighting imbalance at the seam, but it was a quick job. images/Photos/Ireland/StStephensFlood.png
