["Bet you can't catch me!"] Last Friday we played a game of indoor pickup ultimate at the CRC (Community Recreation Center). They have two artificial turf fields with nets strung taut surrounding the edges. It had been a month since we last played and I had some ham-butt-string-itis I was recovering from, so while I could generally run normally, I was still a little cautious at times. At one point I made a deep cut to the endzone and Emily made a long throw. At first I thought there was no way I could get it. Then I realized that it was slowing down and I might be able to get it. In fact, the frisbee was taunting me, daring me to get it. I started to run faster. It hung in the air. At tht point, I wanted to catch it, I went full throttle (which for me might not be all that much). The frisbee continued to hang in the air. I started to yell. The frisbee was no longer under the influence of gravity. I managed to touch it with a finger, but that was all I could do. At this point I was going full speed and I was about a foot from the back edge of the endzone. Remember the net? It was now a foot from me as well. I jumped up and into it and let it slow me down. I do not recall if, as a final gesture of derision, the disc fell on me or not. I was uninjured, but disappointed at it winning this round.

In retrospect, this is how the frisbee appeared to me. The drawing, of course, does not look anything like me (I do own a blue shirt, but I wasn't wearing it). I was wearing a KN-95 mask, but I liked the expression on the face I drew. And there was a net as I was about to run into, but that would be hard to draw and somewhat confusing from that perspective. Plus I'd need to show "me" caught in it, which would also be difficult. So I decided this was good enough.

I sketched this in Photoshop, drew the lines (thin and thick) in Illustrator and colored it there too. I was playing making the letters follow a path, then warping it. And I added a little shading too. The perspective isn't great and the legs and feet aren't great. But it was fairly quick to make. Huzzah! images/Drawings/Sketches/taunting-disc.png
