Subtitle: Judson and I walked from the DFRWS hotel to the National Mall area and took pictures of the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and (from a distance) the Jefferson Memorial. While the reflecting pool is betweeen all of that, it was actually not present. It was fenced off, with heavy equipment in the area, and all the water had been drained, as part of its "rehabilitation". I hope it gets time off for good behavior. It was at night, but the area is well lit and the white marble is probably more striking against a dark night sky. DSC_2386: DSC_2387: The moon is to the left of the Washington Monument. Note no reflection from the (missing) Reflection Pool. DSC_2392: Judson takes a picture of Abe. DSC_2399: Frank peeking out. DSC_2402: Frank looking up. DSC_2404: Impressive columns, big building. DSC_2405: DSC_2406: DSC_2407: Abe!!! DSC_2408: DSC_2411: DSC_2412: Judson, taking a picture of the Washington Monument from the Lincoln Memorial. The moon is right over the Washington Monument. DSC_2413: DSC_2414: "Four score and seven years ago..." DSC_2415: Lincoln's second inauguration address. DSC_2418: DSC_2420: DSC_2422: The moon. Almost nothing else is visible because I had to way underexpose everything else to keep the moon from getting blown out (it's quite bright). This was taken using the camera's manual mode. DSC_2425: DSC_2429: Ooooh, that's scary! Judson contemplates his plans to Rule the World. DSC_2431: DSC_2432: DSC_2435: The moon is to the right of the monument. There's a bit of reflection by the WWII Veterans Memorial, but not the reflecting pool (out for "rehabilitation"). DSC_2439: DSC_2441: World War II Veterans Memorial. DSC_2442: "Slow flash" mode picture of Judson. DSC_2443: "Slow flash" mode picture of me. DSC_2446: Jefferson Memorial (from a distance) across the Tidal Basin. DSC_2447: DSC_2449: The back side of the White House at night. Almost nothing was lit up except the flag at the top. lincoln_ceiling: A composition of two pictures, as even with a wide-angle lens, I couldn't show enough of the ceilling of the Lincoln Memorial in one shot. moon-and-monument: This one is a bit of a cheat. I took the moon from DSC_2432 and used that to replace the one from DSC_2431. The two pictures were taken one after another, just with radically different exposure settings. I kind of like the bright moon better.
