Subtitle: After some east coast traveling, I spent a few days in Rochester. I saw the Rochester Fringe Festival, a sort of street fair, on Friday September 20, 2013. I borrowed a bicycle from a friend and rode with another friend downtown and around the area. The weather was great. We caught a local music group (there are many Eastman trained musicians in the area, playing all styles of music), then stopped at High Falls, a waterfall from the Genesee River. Then onto Manhattan Square part to watch Project Bandaloop dance on the side of the Xerox Tower, and then got dinner where the food trucks were.
The the first part of a trip was to Martha's Vineyard.
The second was to Walden Pond.
This is the third part of the trip.
-DSC_5501-header: Cello Show
-DSC_5501-headertext: We caught a group of 6 cellists performing at a coffee shop. They were decent, though my socks remained on my feet, unblown off.
-DSC_5501: The audience at the coffee shop; it was a pretty packed house.
-DSC_5502: The main singer.
-DSC_5506: Six cellists and a drummer.
-DSC_5509-header: High Falls
-DSC_5509-headertext: We biked to High Falls, which was unrelated to the Fringe Festival but nearby in downtown Rochester. The Genesee Brewing Company is there too. I took some pictures of the falls and then we stopped at the bar and took in the view from the top deck.
-DSC_5509: The falls.
-DSC_5510: A wider shot of the falls.
-DSC_5511: The Pont De Renne bridge that provides the view of High Falls. The Genesee Brewing Company is at the end of the bridge. It has a restaurant and bar, with patio decks that look out onto High Falls and Rochester.
-DSC_5512: Looking downstream.
-DSC_5513:
-DSC_5514: Amber points out something at the base of the falls.
-DSC_5516: Frank on the Pont De Renne Bridge with High Falls in the background.
-DSC_5517: The Kodak building. The sign and light at the top had just lit up.
-DSC_5520: Two buildings in the distance, I'm not sure what they are, but the one on the left looks like some alien device, like a sonic screwdriver.
-DSC_5521: I don't know what the pilot brewery is (perhaps an experimental facility) but I found hte name amusing.
-DSC_5522: The neon sign on top of the Brewery.
-DSC_5524: The view of the Pont De Renne bridge from the the Genesee Brewery.
-DSC_5527: The view of High Falls from the Brewery.
-DSC_5532: One more of the Pont De Renne bridge. The sky wasn't quite that blue, but it was incredibly warm and pleasant out. This picture is cropped a bit, which is why the thumbnail is smaller than the others.
-DSC_5535-header: Project Bandaloop on the Xerox Tower
-DSC_5535-headertext: Project Bandaloop are a set of dancers who perform high up on walls. Because of the size of the building, as they swing from left to right and back again, they can be in the air for 5-10 seconds. It looks like some zero-g dance troup. They danced on the Xerox Tower, a 30 floor building, over 400 feet high. The dancers were probably about 200 feet up on ropes and harnesses. It was quite impressive.
-DSC_5535: Two performers on the building.
-DSC_5536: Dancing and prancing!
-DSC_5537: Their reflections are visible in the windows. Neat.
-DSC_5539: Three of them, doing acrobatics.
-DSC_5542: All three together, more fun. The green blur in the lower right corner is from some asshole with a laser pointer. He was doing it for the whole fucking show, often swirling it on the performers. Like having some obnoxious child shouting or waving his hand in front of your face during an entire movie. He had made his point at the start, it seemed unnecesssary to keep defacing the entire performance. Very sad. This was the only picture that had it, as I tried to avoid getting it in the shots.
-DSC_5543: More three-way-dancing.
-DSC_5544: Three dancers in a circle.
-DSC_5546: Five dancers are out, and I'm not the only one taking pictures.
-DSC_5550: The dancers descend and take their bows.
-DSC_5551: More bows as they head towards the bottom of the building.
-DSC_5553-header: Fringe Festival—Manhattan Square Park
-DSC_5553-headertext: We watched Bandaloop from Manhattan Square Park. There were food trucks there (with some pretty good food) and various other things. It was a neat place.
-DSC_5553: The Xerox Tower buidling is still lit, but the performance is over and the pit, where lots of the audience was, is rapidly emptying.
-DSC_5554: Another view of the area by the building.
-DSC_5555: There was a full moon, and the food tents are visible (next to food trucks which are not visible in this picture).
-DSC_5556: The disc of myster! An artwork that consisted of two discs caught the light in the area and made intersting circular patterns.
-DSC_5557:
-DSC_5558: A pond, that becomes an ice skating rink in the winter.
-DSC_5560: The metalic skeleton structure in the center seems to be an access to a catwalk/lighting area. I think it's part of an area where plays are performed in the summer.
-DSC_5561: One more of the Xerox tower.
-DSC_5562: A food truck where I got dinner (Carolina BBQ pulled pork). They ran out of buns just before me, but that was OK, I didn't want one anyway and wound up saving a few bucks. The trucks were popular.
