Subtitle: Saturday, October 27th, 2012 was our annual Halloween Hat Tournament for our ultimate frisbee group (IAUA). It started out gray and drizzly, but became decent (not sunny, but not cold or wet). People came out, in costume, we played and had fun. Also, I wanted to test drive a 500mm telephoto lens I was borrowing. Fortunately, Jeff brought a tripod. # photos # new header 00-DSC_3479: Boo! 00a-DSC_3317-header: Pregame fun 00a-DSC_3317: Arthur (me) and The Tick (Will) 01-DSC_3325: 02-DSC_3332: The battle cries!
Arthur: Not in the face, not in the face!!!
The Tick: Spoon!!! 03-DSC_3334: Will is The Tick. 04-DSC_3337: Ruth is a Wooly Bear Caterpillar. 05-DSC_3341: It's Caterpillar Lady vs. The Tick 06-DSC_3342: Gavin is ... something, and prepared with his own feather boa. 07-DSC_3344: King Jim graces us with his noble presence. 08-DSC_3347: Greg with an incredible Greg costume. 09-DSC_3349: Leon plays the devil's advocate, asking Ruth if anyone would know if somehow some of the tournament money ended up, you know, elsewehre... 10-DSC_3351: This shot kind of minds Leon look more like an imp. 11-DSC_3352: Don't cross Leon. 12-DSC_3354: 13-DSC_3355: Greg's has a momentary costume malfunction, but quickly goes back to being Greg. 14-DSC_3357: Bob makes a rare guest appearance! 15-DSC_3359: 16-DSC_3360: Ruth demonstrates what the feather boa 'superpower' does while marking Greg (note: this is not Gavin's boa). Yes, it's the "hump-d". 17-DSC_3361: 18-DSC_3363: 19-DSC_3364: 20-DSC_3365: Pierre demonstrates too. 21-DSC_3368: Joe Cool arrives (Jeff). My guess is Michael Stipe, in the first half of the '90s. 22-DSC_3370: Jester shots superpower: The backwards facing mark. 23-DSC_3372: Bob in Dodgeball costume, complete with dodgeball, which was added as a superpower. 24-DSC_3374: 25-DSC_3375: 26-DSC_3376: 27-DSC_3377: The Flash (Emily) arrives. Alternatively, she could be Lightning Lass or the Scarlet Speedster or some other Go-Fast hero. During the game, she wore a jacket so as not to ruin a good costume. 28-DSC_3380: The Flash strikes a Kirby-esque action pose (or perhaps Power Rangers) then demonstrates her speed. 29-DSC_3382: 30-DSC_3384: 31-DSC_3385: 32-DSC_3389: Jeff's shoes (with cleats) even match his outfit. 33-DSC_3390-header: Game On 33-DSC_3390-headertext: 33-DSC_3390: 34-DSC_3392: 35-DSC_3393: 36-DSC_3394: 37-DSC_3396: Ray about to pull. 38-DSC_3397: Bob: What? The pull was totally out of bounds. 39-DSC_3398: 40-DSC_3399: Note the pillow case and dodgeball superpowers. 41-DSC_3400: 42-DSC_3401: 43-DSC_3402: 44-DSC_3403: 45-DSC_3406: 46-DSC_3407: 47-DSC_3408: 48-DSC_3409: 49-DSC_3410: Ying-Ying aims... 50-DSC_3411: ...and fires. 51-DSC_3412: And Russel catches. 52-DSC_3413: 53-DSC_3414: 54-DSC_3415: 55-DSC_3417: 56-DSC_3419: 57-DSC_3420: 58-DSC_3421: 59-DSC_3423: Arthur buzzes around the backfield. (Yes, the wings gave me an extra 6″ of vertical distance on jumps. Actually, they blocked my view when I wound up to throw a backhand.) 60-DSC_3424: The Devil (Leon) fights for a disc while The Tick and Arthur watch. 61-DSC_3426: 62-DSC_3431: Emily has the pillowcase (catching the disc in the endzone with it scores 2 points instead of 1) and is about to make a 2 point catch. 63-DSC_3432: 64-DSC_3433: But not if Ying-Ying has anything to say about it. 65-DSC_3434: Aside: Dressed in all black with rose-colored sunglasses, Ying-Ying is...wearing her usual uniform. She needs some sort of superhero name. 66-DSC_3438-header: Taking a Break 66-DSC_3438-headertext: 66-DSC_3438: Sue stopped by. She was dressed casually in her "bat-robe" (that still cracks me up). 67-DSC_3439: 68-DSC_3441: By this time Leon had lost one horn. Unintentionally, Sue's bat-ears are in a similar one up/one down configuration. 69-DSC_3443: 70-DSC_3446: 71-DSC_3447: Eric and Russel are also there, mostly as themselves. 72-DSC_3449: 73-DSC_3451: 74-DSC_3454-header: More Ultimate 74-DSC_3454-headertext: 74-DSC_3454: Victor joins in. 75-DSC_3458: Emily just misses one in the endzone. If only she were just a little bit faster (she said she didn't want to dive and wreck the costume). 76-DSC_3459: Ruth kept track of the bids and wagers. 77-DSC_3460: With a mighty leap, Jim catches one. 78-DSC_3461: He caught air long enough for me to take two pictures. I won't say how fast the frame rate was... 79-DSC_3470-header: Post Game 79-DSC_3470-headertext: 79-DSC_3470: Ruth points out the "battle scars" Pierre earned. That one was from landing in a pile of deer shit just beond the endzone. 79-DSC_3470: 80-DSC_3471: Gavin commences texting. 81-DSC_3472: 82-DSC_3473: Crash waits patiently for a treat... 83-DSC_3474: ...which Victor provides (it's flying in the air just above Victor's hand). 84-DSC_3475: 85-DSC_3476: Scott managed to block a low-fast hammer Pierre threw to Leon. Leon wisely got the hell out of the way (that was not how he lost his horn). Scott tried to catch it. It bounced off his hands and into the bridge of his nose. This was after getting cleated earlier. Scott wins the "walking wounded" award for the most injuries that do not require leaving the game and possibly seeking medical attention. (There were none of those.) 86-DSC_3477: 87-DSC_3478: I've no idea what's going on here. It appears that Emily is a bit grossed out watching Gavin text while two-knuckles deep picking his nose. When you get tenure, you can do whatever you want. 89-DSC_3480-header: Mack Line 89-DSC_3480-headertext: There was some post-game mack-line-ing. More practice was needed. 89-DSC_3480: 90-DSC_3482: 91-DSC_3483: 92-DSC_3487: 93-DSC_3488: 94-DSC_3489: 95-DSC_3490: 96-DSC_3492: 97-DSC_3493: 98-DSC_3495:
