I went on a lunchtime walk with two friends, Katie and Alan, plus their
dog Simon. We met at upper Buttermilk Falls, but were kind of horrified
to see how many people were there (and who could tell who were the zombies
among them). So we escaped to Ithaca College which was near by and almost
completely deserted. Very easy to spot the zombies. We walked around a
bit and I took a few pictures. All I had was my wide angle lens, which
was good for most things except for pictures of the lake in the distance.
Note that all of us were masked, except for Simon.

Update: As documented above, Katie took
some pictures too. Some were the same things I was taking a picture of,
some were me taking pictures of those things, and some were of other
stuff. She let me include a few of her pictures here at the end. Plus,
a few pictures from another activity. They're the bottom 2 sections.

Update 2: As documented above, Alan took
some pictures too. And this included a picture Alan took of Katie taking
a picture of me taking a picture of the thisle and bumblebee.
a few pictures from another activity. So I have added Yet Another
Section titled The Making Of The Making Of
which contains just one newly unearthed picture.
As far as I know, Simon the dog did not have a camera nor did he
take any pictures. At least none that he admits.

000-DSC_4360-headertext:
This section includes the pictures I took while we were walking around IC. 000-DSC_4360: There's a big turkey vulture perched on the top of the building, near the middle. Visible in high res version. 001-DSC_4361: A map of the trails (for my reference). 002-DSC_4362: Alan, Katie, and Simon going down the hill by the chain railing. It's pretty steep. If it had been wet, the leaves would be really slippery, and worse in winter when there might be ice and snow. So the chains are useful for going up and down under one's own control. 003-DSC_4363: The empty parking lot in wide-angly glory. Plus two two towers (dorms) and Cayuga Lake (mostly obscurred). 004-DSC_4364: A sort-of view of Cayuga Lake. I was trying to obsure some power generators nearby by getting as low as I could and having the bushes mostly obscure them. 005-DSC_4365: Thistle and a bumble bee! 006-DSC_4366: More bumble bee and thistle action. 007-DSC_4367: Katie taking a picture of the thistle and bees. 008-DSC_4368: Some flowers (Zinnias?) near an empty fountain. 009-DSC_4369: I think these might be Zinnias, after looking through lots of photos of red flowers with many petals. 010-DSC_4371: Another view of the lake from IC campus. 011-DSC_4372: The pond by the Muller Chapel at Ithaca College. 012-DSC_4373: Muller Chapel at Ithaca College. 013-IMG_3768-header: The Making Of... 013-IMG_3768-headertext:
These are picture Katie took. I was using my 8 year old Nikon D-7000 DSLR camera with a decent wide angle lens. She was using her fairly recent cell phone. I think in terms of colors, resolution, sharpness, depth of field range, my camera is decent and approaches hers sometimes, but hers is technically better. As far as arstistic quality, I'll be generous (to me) and say sometimes mine approach hers. I won't claim she's cheating because she is an artist... 013-IMG_3768: Frank taking the flower and bee pictures in 005 and 006. 014-IMG_3770: Katie's flower picture in 007 with two bees! The second one is on top of the flower. 015-IMG_3777: Me taking the zenia pictures in 008 and 009 next to the empty fountain. Note the stylish "dutch tilt" like I'm in a '60s Batman episode... 016-IMG_3778: Katie's version of the Zenia. 017-IMG_3779: Katie and me in the same picture. Katie is taking a recursive picture of her taking a picture of herself taking the picture and me taking a picture of flowers. I think. My head hurts... 018-IMG_3783: Me taking the picture of Muller Chapel in 012. 018a-IMG_0666-header: The Making Of The Making Of... ! 018a-IMG_0666-headertext:
Yes, a picture of a picture of a picture, I think... So for the pedantic, this is the making of 013, which itself is the making of 005 and 006. 018a-IMG_0666: The Making Of The Making Of The Thistle and Bumblebee picture. 019-IMG_3849-header: Plus Softball 019-IMG_3849-headertext:
On Sunday June 28th, a few of the frisbee people
played a game of socially-distant softball. It's the first time I've played
softwball in at least 30-35 years and I always sucked. Also, it was the
first significant running I did in 3.5 months (the same with all of us).
And it's a different kind of running that ulimate. Everyone was sore
afterwards. It was low-key and actually kind of fun. Lots of hand
sanitizing.
I hit the ball a few times and even got on base my last time.
019-IMG_3849: Wide view of me at bat.
020-IMG_3851: Frank ready to bat, with the perfect "I have no
idea how to hold a bat" form.
021-IMG_3852: Frank hits the ball and has to run! It was either a
fly ball that was caught or an out at first. Note the orange theme
of me, Lena playing first, Kenji in right field, and Ray in center field.
You can see the orange first base just to the right of Lena, and then
maybe 3 meters to the right of it at the edge of the picture was the
socially distant first base where I was running.
