Subtitle:
I spent a few days on Martha's Vineyard, Thursday Sept 12 - Monday September 16. My parents and sister were there. Although I didn't do that much exploring (I've been there many times before), I took some pictures of the area.
This is the first part of a trip.
The second was to Walden Pond.
The third was to Rochester.
-DSC_5226-header: The Ferry Ride
-DSC_5226-headertext: Often in recent years, I'd just fly myself from Ithaca to Martha's Vineyard. This year, since there were other places I was going after this, I drove to Falmouth, MA, parked my car there, and then took the ferry from Woods Hole to Martha's Vineyard.
-DSC_5226: The Ferry was the Island Home.
-DSC_5227: The view as we left Woods Hole.
-DSC_5232:
-DSC_5234: A house with a nice view of Cape Cod.
-DSC_5235: A house with an even nicer view of the Cape.
-DSC_5237-2:
-DSC_5237: Seagulls would follow the ship. It was a windy day and they just sat there, riding the breeze, pacing us. It was neat to watch. I took this picture with my 35mm (50mm effectively) lens, so no zoom.
-DSC_5243: The north side of the Island, with West Chop in the foreground and East Chop in the distance.
-DSC_5244: A close up of the northwest part of the Island as we passed it. The West Chop Lighthouse is visible on the left side of the picture.
-DSC_5245:
-DSC_5246: People waiting on the bow of the ship, facing a stiff breeze.
-DSC_5249: The Island Home's wheelhouse.
-DSC_5260: A ship with the Black Dog flag in the Vineyard Haven Bay.
-DSC_5263: Approaching the dock.
-DSC_5264: At the helm in the wheelhouse during docking.
-DSC_5265: Shortly before docking, the bow kicks up a wake as the ship slows down.
-DSC_5267: The wake approaches the dock.
-DSC_5268:
-DSC_5271: The boat is secured and the ramp is attached so the cars can exit.
-DSC_5272: The side of the boat where passengers disembark. It was the starboard side when we docked, but will be the port side when it leaves, since the boats are symmetric and bi-directional.
-DSC_5273-header: At Home
-DSC_5273-headertext: Some pictures of the area around the cottage, including the stream behind us and the Lagoon Pond.
-DSC_5273: The view from our porch. The owl is plastic but reduces the number of birds, and their poop, that sit on the deck.
-DSC_5277: The draw-bridge open, with the mast of a boat passing through.
-DSC_5283: A close-up of the metal wire from which a bird feeder used to hang, with the house in the background.
-DSC_5284: A low shot of the stream.
-DSC_5286: Looking into the stream (and a cinder block there).
-DSC_5287: Ripples extending to the far side of the stream.
-DSC_5289: The house, with Marlene and Honey on the deck.
-DSC_5291: Some abandoned row boats.
-DSC_5295: The beach by the Lagoon Pond with the lobster hatchery in the distance.
-DSC_5297: Don't eat the shellfish here.
-DSC_5298: A close-up, narrow depth of field shot of seaweed on the beach.
-DSC_5302-header: People
-DSC_5302-headertext: Some family photos, plus my sister's dog.
-DSC_5302: Two pictures of me, while I'm in the Lagoon Pond. They're cropped a bit, which is why they're smaller than the other pictures here.
-DSC_5303:
-DSC_5305: My sister and dad.
-DSC_5306: My dad, sister, mother, and dog.

dd-DSC_5390: Honey and her beaver-tail wagging wildly.
-DSC_5316-header: Sunsets from the Deck
-DSC_5316-headertext: There's a little pond next to the house, and beyond it, we get nice sunsets visible from the porch. Here are a few sunset pictures.
-DSC_5316: A silhouette around sunset.
-DSC_5320: Some thin clouds above.
-DSC_5323: Orange colors in the sky and water.

-DSC_5327: Some cumulus clouds building up in the distance.
-DSC_5329: More orange colors during a high tide.

cottage.
-DSC_5341: I collected some seashells.
-DSC_5350: Two scallop shells on the chair arm.

-DSC_5353:
-DSC_5354: Fly and be free!
-DSC_5355:
-DSC_5356: Left behind birds (or maybe ones that don't want to go wireless).
a-porch_Panorama.png: The deck (from four pictures). There are two artifacts. One was a gap in the electric wire which I fixed (quick and dirty) in photoshop. The other is a zig-zag on the railing which is beyond my abilities to fix.
b-DSC_5372: The living room.
c-DSC_5373: White door going out from the kitchen to the deck.
d-DSC_5376: High tide.

-DSC_5357-header: Vineyard Haven
-DSC_5357-headertext: I spent some time on Monday morning wandering around Vineyard Haven, by the shops, the water, and a few blocks away by houses. Vineyard Haven is also sometimes known as Tisbury.
-DSC_5357: Owen Park, just at the edge of Vineyard Haven.
-DSC_5361: The Island Home just leaving the port.
-DSC_5363: A dock beyond Owen Park.
-DSC_5364: The beach beyond Owen Park, looking towards Vineyard haven.
-DSC_5365: Looking the other direction up the beach.

-DSC_5406: A little alley in Vineyard Haven.
-DSC_5408: Crunchberries?
-DSC_5412: A car was partked outside outside of a church. It had a solar-powered buddhist prayer wheel on it that was spinning. I thought it was rather cool and cute and a bit ironic.
-DSC_5418: The Tisbury Town Hall.
a-mvy_church_Panorama: A Panoramic shot of a New England church made from
four pictures.
-DSC_5419: A nice looking house, with a yard and gate, all very yellow.
