We stopped by Martha's Vineyard Glasswworks
to watch them making glass pumpkins. It's always fun to watch. I sent
them a cropped version of the last picture which they posted on their
Instagram account.
000-DSC_4749: Reheating the pumpkin in the furnace.
001-DSC_4750:
002-DSC_4751: This was a large glass pumpkin, weighing around 10 lbs.
003-DSC_4752:
004-DSC_4754: They are going to create the pumpkin stem at the top.
005-DSC_4755: Drawing out the part that will be the base of the stem.
006-DSC_4756:
007-DSC_4760: An assortment of small, colorful glass pumpkins they made.
008-DSC_4765: Working on the part that will be the stem.
009-DSC_4766:
010-DSC_4767: More stem shaping. He might have added some of the
fairy dust (whatever) to give it color.
011-DSC_4768: Drawing out the stem. The texture was created by putting
it in a mold.
012-DSC_4770: The colored stem is complete and the work is almost done.
013-DSC_4771: They're just about to "knock off" (separate)
the pumpkin from the pontil (rod).
014-DSC_4772: Behold, it is complete!
Here
is a darker, cropped version I sent them that they posted
to their Instagram account (a friend who uses Instagram sent me that
screenshot). It makes him look a bit like the Mandalorian. Sorry,
I'm not going to Photoshop in a baby Yoda.
