Subtitle: After Stavanger, I headed to Oslo and spent a few days there, meeting up with a friend who moved to Stockholm a while back. I was in Oslo from May 21-24, 2015.

Other pages from the Norway trip: 003-DSC_7620-header: Flying into Oslo 003-DSC_7620-headertext: I flew from Stavanger to Oslo on Norwegian Air. It was mostly cloudy en-route but started to clear as we descended into the Oslo area. 003-DSC_7620: The view of the Norwegian countryside. 004-DSC_7621: A view as we were descending through the cloud deck. 005-DSC_7622: 006-DSC_7623: 007-DSC_7624: Oslo is a port city, so there's a lot of water in the area as we got closer. 008-DSC_7625: 009-DSC_7626: Mountains off in one direction. 010-DSC_7627: And inlets and valleys in the other direction. 011-DSC_7628: Near the airport. 012-DSC_7629: Approaching the runway. 013-DSC_7630: Just before touchdown as another plane waits for us to land. 013-station_Panorama-header: Central Station 013-station_Panorama-headertext: After arriving into Oslo, I met up with my friend and we took the train from the airport to the central station. 013-station_Panorama: A two-picture panoramic picture of part of the central station. While it has shops now, it looks like it was part of a train station (like where tracks might have been). 014-DSC_7631: In the terminal. 015-DSC_7632: As Principal Skinner once said while pursuing Bart, "A spoor..." 016-DSC_7633: Low shot in the terminal. 017-DSC_7634: The Big Board at the station. 018-DSC_7638: The tiger in front of the Central Station was put there in the year 2000, when Oslo celebrated it's 1000th year. The golden spots are places that tourist hands constantly touch (like the tail and mouth). 019-DSC_7639: Another view of the tiger. 020-DSC_7640: 021-DSC_7641-header: In the Neighborhood 021-DSC_7641-headertext: After getting settled in the apartment in Oso, we decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. We were a few blocks east of the Central Station. There were various restaurants, pubs, and markets within a few blocks. Also a jail which was next to a park. 021-DSC_7641: There was a corridor that had a trash can in it. It looked distinctly muppet-like, which amused me. 022-DSC_7642: The corrodir was a little bit ominous and gloomy. 023-DSC_7643: That's because it was the gate to a fucking prison! Years ago, I was driving around northern California with a friend. The road ended at a gate and there was a guard there who clearly should have been ironically nicknamed "tiny". It was San Quentin and we turned around before going there. This had a similar sort of feel to it. Faith and I somehow were at the gate to a real, actual, proper prison. Though we didn't see anyone around, prisoner or guard. I didn't want to hang around there too much taking pictures, as it might have drawn the not-good attention.
Anyway, the gate pretty clearly explained (in Norwegian and English) what not to bring into the prison. 024-DSC_7644: We retreated and wandered through a small park nearby. I liked how the path stretched out. 025-DSC_7645:The prison walls were just beyond the park. 026-DSC_7646: I liked the colors on the buildings. 027-DSC_7647: Faith took pictures of the buildings while standing next to an odd-looking tree. 028-DSC_7648: And Faith took a picture of me (taking a picture of her, etc. etc.). 029-DSC_7651: Another building with some nice balconies. 030-DSC_7652: A bridge with Barcode Buildings beyond it. 031-DSC_7653: The Barcode buildings 032-DSC_7654: Another bridge from the first bridge. It's close to the Central Station, with all the railroad tracks nearby. 032-building_Panorama: A bit of neat looking architecture in the entranceway of this building. This is the ProceWaterhouseCoopers building, one of the barcode buildings. 033-DSC_7655: A fountain next to the weird/neat looking buidling. 034-DSC_7656: 035-DSC_7657: 036-DSC_7661: Looking from behind the little waterfall back to where I was. 037-DSC_7665: In the continuing category of Frank Reacts to Signs: I felt the sign, since it told me to do so. 038-DSC_7666: Modern-ish bubbly, blobby sculpture a few blocks from the central station. 039-DSC_7667: A big construction project. 040-DSC_7668: 040-bigpit_Panorama: This panoramic series was taken from the top of the Oslo Opera House. Because of the curvature of the image, I didn't crop it to smooth the boarders. 041-DSC_7669: Are these just cool bike sculptures in Oslo (with Faith in the pack)? 042-DSC_7670: No...they're also bike racks, and at night the front and back (by the seat-pots and handle bar) light up! 043-DSC_7671: Thi was a neat mural on a building wall a few blocks from where we stayed. As we walked closer towards it, more of the mural was revealed, from right to left, with the last part allowing us to understand it's all just a kid's bedtime bathroom toys.
