The flight from JFK to Bergen.
The beginning of the Great Norwegian Adventure. From Sunday April 14
to Sunday April 28, 2019. I left in the morning on the Cornell bus to
New York City. Because of the grounding of all 737 Max 8 planes, my flights
on Norwegian Air were changed so that they were now out of JFK airport in
New York City, instead of the Stewart Airport in Newburg, NY.
I spent the afternoon at the office where I was consulting, then got
transport to the airport and began the journey (even though I had already
spent 4 hours on a bus).
000-DSC_2191-header: JFK Airport
000-DSC_2191-headertext: There were lines. I call it an
unsorted priority queue.
000-DSC_2191: The line at the JFK airport at 9pm for an 11:30pm
flight was pretty crazy. And apparently it was just another Sunday
night for them.
001-DSC_2192: The line extended all the way down the terminal
and then back, with a gap in it so people could have access to
and from the escalators.
002-DSC_2194-header: Night and Dawn
002-DSC_2194-headertext:
002-DSC_2194: I caught the 787's wing illuminated by the
flashing red anti-collision light. Yeah, I had time to spare.
003-DSC_2197: The glow of dawn over the North Atlantic at 37,000 feet.
004-DSC_2200-header: Norway from 37,000 '
004-DSC_2200-headertext:
004-DSC_2200: The landscape below over the interior of Norway was
quite beautiful at altitude.
005-DSC_2201:
006-DSC_2202:
007-DSC_2203: Much less snow around as we are getting near the airport
and the approach flaps are set.
008-DSC_2204: Landing flaps set, we are getting near the Oslo-Gardermoen
airport. Only very small bits of snow remain.
009-DSC_2205-header: The Oslo-Gardermoen Airport
009-DSC_2205-headertext: You can buy things there.
009-DSC_2205: A view of the gauntlet that is the duty free shop below
at the Gardermoen airport.
010-DSC_2206:
011-DSC_2207: It's actually a pretty nice airport.
012-DSC_2208: Of course the cartoon mother on the Norwegian Air Saftey
Card is tall, thin, buxom, with blonde hair and blue eyes. And she's
strong enough to rip a 200 lb. door off its hinges and tear it in two
if her child is at risk. I'll have to fly this airline more often.

013-DSC_2209: Pushing back at Oslo-Gardermoen airport.
014-DSC_2210: Notice the 6 foot wall of remnant grunge snow in the distance.
015-DSC_2211:
016-DSC_2212:
017-DSC_2213: More views of the interior of Norway as we head west to Bergan.
The snow-capped mountains look like some sort of pastries with powdered
sugar on them.

018-DSC_2214-headertext:
018-DSC_2214: On the bus from the Bergan airport into town.
019-DSC_2215: The scenery is quite pretty, and this is the mundane stuff.
