Subtitle: Second Winter came early. It got up to 62°F (16°C) by Jan 11-12, after a cold stretch of single digits (F). And then it went back to the cold weather for a week.

But now it warmed up with temperatures in the 40s F (mid to high single digits C). So I took a walk with a friend, Saturday January 20, 2018.

Lots of houses had hoses pumping out water from their basements. I didn't think to take pictures of it, since I didn't think there'd be so many. But it was a blue sky day and sunny, and I took a few pictures of Ithaca Falls, as well as some of the broken ice on the path.

It's supposed to be rainy this week, and then Third Winter will probably start mid week, with temperatures bouncing all over. DSC_0731: Downtown Ithaca houses. I liked the sharp colors in contrast with the blue sky. Many of them were pumping out their flooded basements (though I don't think these two were). DSC_0735: The Cayuga Gun smokestack (all that's left) from just behind the high school. DSC_0736: Fall Creek from the bridge. DSC_0737: Ithaca Falls and Fall Creek while standing on the bridge. DSC_0738: Fall Creek. DSC_0739: More Fall Creek. DSC_0741: The edge of Fall Creek by the now icy trail to walk to the Falls. The last few shots could have been stitched together, but it would be an odd shape. DSC_0742: Ithaca Falls and Fall Creek from the bridge on Fall Street. (Sorry for using the word Fall so many times.) DSC_0743: The trail to Ithaca Falls was icy, as it had been flooded, frozen, melted, and probably a few freezing cycles, cracked, shattered, walked on, and more. DSC_0744: A closer view of the broken ice on the trail. DSC_0746: A close up of the broken ice on the trail. I like the patterns and textures. DSC_0747: More broken ice on the trail. DSC_0748: Still more ice! DSC_0749: Slightly bigger chunks of ice. DSC_0750: Slightly bigger chunks of ice with a different white balance. DSC_0751: Yet another different white balance giving a half and half color. These are three distinct pictures, taken at the same time. DSC_0752: People had walked through the dip in the trail past the ice and were heading towards the falls. DSC_0753: Flooded and frozen areas on the trail close to the creek.
