Subtitle: On Sunday March 2, 2014, we spent the day walking around downtown Asheville.
Other pages from the Ashville trip:
-DSC_6329: A free bike repair station with a pump and tools. As "the kids" might ask, "How cool is that?" I would answer, "Quite a bit cool." Asheville's just that kind of place. This was near the Grey Eagle which is where we saw the concert later that night.
-DSC_6333: Some statues of dancers in town.
-DSC_6336: Another sculture but a little bit more abstract.
-DSC_6338: A city street, with some street musicans in the distance (next to the man in the blue sweatshirt).
-DSC_6339: The Vance monument.
-DSC_6341: The Asheville Art Musuem, which has a cool murual on the building.
-DSC_6342:
-DSC_6343:
-DSC_6345: Hee Haw! Buckaroo Frank rides a pig. Again. Though it's not always a pig he rides.
-DSC_6355:
-DSC_6357: A statue of a girl drinking from a fountain. I had seen that statue when reading about Asheville and wanted to find it, though I had no idea where in town it was. I managed to find it!
-DSC_6359: The statue girl isn't the only one who can pose to drink water. Note that I'm holding my pony tail to keep it out of the pretend water too.
-DSC_6361: Turns out I'll be waiting in line behind her a long time.
-DSC_6362: Amber with the Vance Monument in the background (looks like it's coming out of her bag).
-DSC_6363: While sitting on the ledge where Amber was in the previous picture, there was a group that walked up to the statue. I liked how the girls appear to be waiting for the statue-girl, just like I was doing a few pictures earlier.
-DSC_6364:
-DSC_6365: We had lunch in Pack's Tavern. The food was quite good.
-DSC_6382: An old style car was parked in front of Pack's Tavern. Amber pointed out how the "Expired" sign on the parking meter seemed to be a commentary on the car too.
-DSC_6383: It carried some sort of beer barrel. Not sure if it was real.
-DSC_6366:
-DSC_6368:
-DSC_6369: A guy sat on the top of the steps of the amphitheater and he had a ram's horn. It was kind of neat.
-DSC_6370: Amber uses her phone to scan a curious old box.
-DSC_6371: Cool monument by a city building.
-DSC_6372: A new city building with mountains in the background.
-DSC_6373: I'm assuming this group was from the Society for Creative Anacronism (SCA), or some similar sword fighting group.
-DSC_6374: "Block"
-DSC_6375: "Ha ha! I kill you!"
-DSC_6376: "Now I kill you too!" "Huh, what? No fair!"
-DSC_6377: While this battle was going on, the guy in the amphitheater was blowing the ram's horn. Bawoooo, bawoooooooo! It sounded like a mix of a Rosh Hashanna service and The Lord of the Rings. I was going to record a video of the fake fighting with the horn of battle in the background but he stopped right when I got there, because some guy was talking to him. I waited, but no more battle horns. Eventually the guy left, and Horatio Hornblower left too. Missed my chance, damn. But it was cool.
-DSC_6379:
-DSC_6384:
-DSC_6385:
-DSC_6387: There was an old guy working on a jigsaw puzzle. I don't know, it was kind of cool to see.
-DSC_6390: A bus-restaurant.
-DSC_6391: We went to a co-op. And while waiting there, I noticed a guy in line that looked like old-testament god, complete with the white hair, white beard, and even sandals. He was wearing jeans and I was disappointed to discover that he drove away in a beat-up old car rather than a chariot of clouds. Oh well.
-DSC_6392: I saw this tree, thought it looked cool, but wasn't sure if I should bother taking a picture of it, since there was really no story to go along with it. While I was looking at it, a guy walked by and told me that that was a peach tree and in fact the first tree he noticed when he first got to Asheville, and often has eaten peaches from it. He had high praises for the tree. I figured that made it worth taking a picture. Asheville just seems like that sort of place, where when you are looking for a story about something, someone will walk up to you and tell you a story you're looking for.
-DSC_6393: I liked the "Laugh" "Love" and "Hope" on the buidling.
-DSC_6394: Cool looing graffiti.
-DSC_6395: A stairway going down to a parking lot where a building used to be.
a-building_Panorama: A picture of the shape of the torn down building on the wall fo an adjacent one, made from a set of 9 pictures merged together.
-DSC_6411: A bit of modern art in front of a building.
-DSC_6452: I liked the silhouette of the telephone poles, wires and light with the mountain scenery in the distance.
-DSC_6453: I liked the image of the barbed wire on the fence in front of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background.
