Fun in Rochester

I visited my friends Moof and Jen in Rochester. We wandered around downtown by the Genesee River and went to a park that was flooded. December 27-28, 2008.

Downtown along the Genesee River

We parked downtown and then walked along the river. It was a warm day so ice on the Genesee River was being carried along it a nddown a small waterfall by a dam. The river was moving very quickly.

Two shots of the ice sliding down the drop or dam or whatever it was. I was testing out the camera and had commented to Moof how the color looked off. He suggested setting the white balance to 'cloudy' which helped a lot. Yes, things really looked muddy rather than blue.

We stood on the bridge and looked down. By the bridge supports, the water from the river was hitting it hard and flying up 10-15 feet in the air. That plume of water is the lighter, frothy stuff at the bottom half the the pictures. Towards the end of the video, you can see the bridge and the water hitting the supports.

Finally, a movie of the ice flows falling down the waterfall.

Ellison Park, Rochester

Moof, Jen, and I went to Ellison Park in Rochester. The warm weather from the previous day made the snow melt which flooded the park. It was colder and windy as hell.

A few shots from the parking lot. A little snow remaining. The pond in the background is supposed to be a grassy field. Those are not normally water trees.

More flooding. There was a little peninsula of high ground that stuck out. A sign sticking up out of the water said "Leash all pets" which seemed quite odd, since it was in the middle of a pond.

A worms-eye-view of the sign, and more views of the flooding. The yellow fire hydrant serves as a reference point for these pictures.

A pond off to the right, then looking back from the end of the little high-ground peninsula, and more trees and flooding.

We went across the street to see more flooding. The road normally turns right and goes into a parking lot, but now goes into pond. Moof was taking some pictures there. A sign by the road points to some baseball fields and picnic shelters.

More flooded pictures, plus one of the underwater baseball fields, and the washed out road. Quite impressive flooding.
