  [The Toothpaste of Fear!]

February 01, 2010

OK...I suppose it's my fault. I didn't think things through and decided to carry on a bag rather than check it and pay an extra $50. And in doing so, I didn't remember to get rid of the normal sized container of toothpaste that I normally use (which apparently can cause a great deal of fear in people). It was discovered and confiscated. The hotel had mini-tubes of toothpaste for free, so that was fine and the trip back was smooth. But then I had to go to the grocery store and buy yet another tube of toothpaste, and I had to decide what size I should buy. You know, mini, small, travel, tiny, or the normal size which in the above drawing contains words that I don't want to use in web pages that can be searched. Eventually, my frugality won out and I bought the huge tube which was the better value, and with luck I will remember to remove it the next time I want to fly somewhere.

Note the nice old-school Pink Panther style bomb with a fuse on the 16 oz box.

This was a fairly quick drawing, though I did take the time to ink it. I wasn't sure at first how I wanted to position things. I wanted to show the guy's face as well as his hand reaching for the box, and the other boxes. Originally I was going to do it from inside the shelf looking out, but that seemed too difficult to draw. If it was from behind the guy, then I couldn't show his face. Then I realized I wanted a reaction from someone else in the aisle, and the side shot seemed to make the most sense. Perspective is a little weird, but it was a quick sketch, so I'm OK with that.

Addendum: Best one-liner response I got on this so far goes to Sue with: they don't want you to put terror paste in your underwear.

I tend to doodle. Over the years, I've accumulated lots of random sketches of things, sometimes people, sometimes things, and sometimes just abstract lines. The basic idea on these pages is for me to slowly scan in highlights from my collection of random quick doodles. I also am providing a place where I can explain what it is or what motivated it or perhaps some reason why I'm not to blame. With the sketches of people, their name may be hand-written, or there might be a talk title provided, but I will tend to avoid providing full names. I don't mind if people know who they are, I just don't want them coming up on search engine hits, since that might be a bit rude.

Note that the images are PNGs with transparency. Mozilla and Firefox properly render them. Safari too, I think. Internet Exporer doesn't. I don't care.
If you want to see the image without the annoying blue-lined background image, just click on the image.
