Frank's Sketchbook Entry of the Day

I had hoped to produce more stuff while the world is in lockdown, but I've been doing other things for the moment. It's been a while since I drew anything worth posting. So I decided to draw a cartoon. Let me describe it panel-by-panel.

The first panel shows a boot kicking (presumably kicking open a door).

The second panel is from the front of a large hall with lit torches on the walls. The foreground is on a raised platform with stairs leading to it. Two lit braziers are on the platform at the top of the stairs. In the foreground is a silhouette of a large round mass with short stubs coming off of it. Standing in the distance are three heroes, a wizard with a staff, a dwarf with a hammer, and a fighter with a sword. Because of the distance, they are mostly silhouettes. One shouts, "AND NOW, VILLAIN, YOU WILL TASTE OUR--" and the other interrupts saying, "HOLY SHIT, IT'S CORVID THE RELENTLESS!"

The third panel shows a Beholder (a D&D serious badass), snarling, as it is awakened. It's many eye-stalks looking in all directions.

The final panel shows the three, much relieved. The fighter says, "NO WAIT...IT'S JUST A BEHOLDER." The Wizard says, "PHEW!" and the Dwarf says, "I'M STILL GOING TO WASH MY HANDS."

Unfortunately, all that was lost when Illustrator crashed this afternoon. Partially my own fault for not religiously saving the files. I had only been working on it since last night. And while there were parts I liked, it was supposed to be quick so it wasn't any great masterpiece.

But the description above still leaves me with no drawings. So after dinner I fired up Photoshop and started drawing a another version of the fighter. After that, I drew a very large SARS-CoV-2 virus on one side and a Beholder on the other. Even though the Beholder is firing off some eye-beam blasts, she's keeping an eye on the Coronavirus.

These days everything is about COVID-19, so I figured I might as well join in. This didn't take long to draw. And I didn't feel like drawing her legs. It's not super, but I think the hands aren't too bad. Photoshop is much easier for sketching and drawing like this. Illustrator is better for things where lines should be straight. I don't think I'm going to try to redraw the lost cartoon. But now I have a quick drawing. Yay!
