(Or How to Spend 15 Minutes in Cologne)
Going from Stuttgart to Bonn required changing trains in Cologne, which is
just north of Bonn. We had 15 minutes or so free and right in front of
the Cologne train station of HbF (Köln Hauptbahnhof for short) is the
Cologne
Cathedral (of Saint Peter). It's a big church (one of the biggest)
whose construction began in 1248 (though previous churches had been on
that site) and was completed in 1880. It was damaged, but not destroyed,
in World War II and post-war repairs were completed in 1956, though
repair and maintenance has been going on continuously since then. It
was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
Given the people around, the site of the church, and the train we had
to catch, I had only enough time to take a few pictures from the outside
with the cellphone camera.
