The City of Norrköping

I went to Sweden to attend a conference and visit a friend. The trip ran from Thursday March 19, 2026 to Tuesday March 31, 2026.

This page includes pictures from a walking tour of Norrköping.

Norrköping is a town about 25 miles/40km east of Linköping and 100 miles/160 km southwest of Stockholm. The end/mouth of the river Motala ström goes through the middle of the city and empties into Bråviken, a bay that is part of the Baltic Sea. Fun fact: Bråviken is a fjard, which is a drowned shallow glacial valley and is similar to, yet different than, a fjord. Norrköping used to produce textiles and paper, but those industries closed in the mid-to-late 20th century. They have a university and in recent years there is a symphony concert hall, and a Visualization Center, which we toured on the last day of the conference.

After the conference, I took a cool group walking tour of downtown including the Philharmonic Symphony Hall and the waterfalls. And then I had Fika with a local before taking the train to Stockholm.
